The seeds

The Seeds that Surface 2024

In an intimate setting, between the whispers of past and present, dancer Alexandra Loembé explores the power of imagination and collective creativity. “The Seeds that Surface” is an interdisciplinary solo performance and metamorphic journey in which childhood memories unfold a boundless landscape, revealing the complexity and fluidity of cultural identity. It reflects the cyclical nature of existence and the potential to illuminate different sides of yourself from the dark.

"I remember the first time I saw my fingerprint. I remember sitting on a soft carpet next to glass table, probably drawing. I stared at my left index finger and saw a map, a path that I don’t walk alone but that is also uniquely mine. This is the first time I acknowledged my self. As I age the shapes remind me of the annual rings of trees, of spending my childhood in the forest, playing, seeing, listening, searching, leaving traces, writing a story. I wonder what stories there are to be found within the path of my fingerprint. Within the waves, the landscape. The curves created by two lives, two different inks, writing what I can see as I look into my hand. I see the book I am reading out loud before going to sleep, that helped with learning a language that is not one of the many that are ours. I see stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds. I see many ways to be. When someone asks me where I am from, can I show them what’s beyond the surface? Can I point my finger to my heart and run in down my body until I touch the soil? Dig deep into the shadows that reveal my roots holding hands within me? Can I show them the mango trees around me? Can I point towards where the taiga meets the sea? Can I take their hand and guide us through a forest, with endless paths and endless ways to adapt and to be?"
